Harold Drop-in Class starts in May!

Starting May 14, Trish Berrong will teach a Harold-focused drop-in class every second and fourth Saturday at 4pm.

Rather than going in linear order, each session will focus on a different piece of Harold: openings, pattern games, edits, group games, time jumps, etc. Topics will be posted on the ComedyCity Improv School Facebook group the week of class.

Prerequisites:
Class is open to students who have competed ComedyCity 101 and 201 or the equivalent from another troupe. You should be familiar with the basic principles (yes-and/agreement, heightening, give and take, etc.) and comfortable with scenework. Familiarity with long-form basics is helpful, too. (ComedyCity's First Friday 10pm Harold show is a great place to start.)

Instructor:
Trish got hooked on Harold when a pal brought a description back from Chicago in the mid-90s. She learned the ropes in multiple workshops with Del Close, Charna Halpern, and their first-generation students, and has performed and directed variations of the original Harold with different troupes for the last 20+ years. Currently, she directs Different, a dystopian teen fiction-inspired Harold, at ComedyCity.

Philosophy:
It's easy, in long-form improv, to get caught up in game moves and rely on cleverness for quick laughs. We'll focus on reaching Harold's full potential in our classes—exploring patterns, finding connections, and discovering relationships between characters and ideas.

Details:
  • No pre-registration is necessary, but it will help with class planning if students indicate they'll attend in session announcements on the Facebook group.
  • Cost is $15/class or five classes for $50, payable in cash, check, or credit card at the time of the session.
  • Sessions will run about two hours—more or less depending on the number of students.

All sessions take place at ComedyCity, 3600 Broadway.
